Fes → Ifrane → Azrou → Ziz Valley → Merzouga
Your driver will pick you up at your riad or Fes-Saïss Airport. We cross the Middle Atlas heading south. First stop at Ifrane, Morocco's "Little Switzerland," with its pointed roofs and rose-lined avenues. Continue to Azrou, a Berber town built on volcanic rock, where we stop in the cedar forest to feed and photograph the wild Barbary macaques. The road then descends toward the Ziz Valley, where ochre cliffs meet seemingly endless lush palm groves. Arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon, just in time for your camel trek at sunset across the Erg Chebbi dunes. The rocky landscape quickly gives way to rolling dunes, and the gentle sway of your camel in the desert silence is often one of our travelers' favorite moments. Arrive at your luxury Berber camp for a traditional dinner, music around the fire, and a night of absolute silence under a star-filled sky.

Wake up at dawn for an unforgettable sunrise over the golden dunes — a photographer's dream. After breakfast and a hot shower at the camp, return by camel or 4x4. We head back north, stopping at Rissani, the ancient capital of the Tafilalet and the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty. Pass through Erfoud, the fossil town, where you can visit a fossilized marble workshop. Lunch in Midelt, a mining and farming town located halfway between the Middle and High Atlas. The road continues through Ifrane, then Immouzer du Kandar, a popular weekend getaway for locals from Fes and Meknes, famous for its troglodyte dwellings carved into the rock.
