Marrakech → Tizi n'Tichka → Aït Benhaddou → Ouarzazate → Boumalne Dades
Your private driver collects you from your riad or Marrakech Menara Airport. We climb the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m) through the High Atlas Mountains, with panoramic photo stops at snow-dusted peaks and remote Berber villages. Descend to the legendary ksar of Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage fortress and filming location for Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia and Game of Thrones. Continue to Ouarzazate, founded by the French as an outpost for the Foreign Legion and now known as Morocco's Hollywood. Nearby Tinghir is a bustling yet charming town at the edge of the palm oasis. Finally, arrive in Merzouga in time for a sunset camel trek into the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes. Wake before dawn for a breathtaking Sahara sunrise over the golden Erg Chebbi dunes — a photographer's dream. After breakfast at the camp, meet your driver and begin the journey north. Traverse the spectacular Ziz Valley, where fertile green date-palm groves marry dramatic brown bluffs. Midelt, known for mining and agriculture, is the midway point for today's drive and a perfect lunch stop. Continue through the fragrant cedar forests of Azrou, aptly named in Berber for the volcanic rocks on which it is built, and feed the friendly Barbary macaques that roam the roadside. You will spend one magical night in a luxury desert camp at Erg Chebbi (Day 2), including a sunset camel trek, traditional Berber dinner, campfire entertainment and breakfast. The camp features proper beds, private bathrooms with hot showers and high-quality bedding.
Day 1 is roughly 5–6 hours to Boumalne Dades with frequent stops. Day 2 is shorter at 3–4 hours to Merzouga. Day 3 is the longest at 7–8 hours from the desert to Fès, broken up with stops in the Ziz Valley, Midelt and Azrou. Your private 4x4 is comfortable and air-conditioned.
The tour includes all monument entrance fees listed in the itinerary, including Aït Benhaddou, Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas Film Studios. Optional activities such as quad biking in the dunes are not included.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most pleasant temperatures across all regions. May is especially magical in the Rose Valley during the harvest. However, this tour operates year-round.
